Aluminum fence panels are attractive to distributors and project buyers because aluminum contains no iron and therefore does not form red iron rust. That does not make every aluminum fence maintenance-free or suitable for every coast. Alloy, temper, profile walls, drainage, powder pretreatment, fasteners and chloride exposure still need to be specified.

For coastal procurement, the buyer should state distance from the shoreline, salt spray or splash exposure, prevailing weather, cleaning access and contact with dissimilar metals. Surface preparation, coating or anodizing, cut edges, drainage, crevices and fastener isolation still need attention. Site maintenance instructions should identify cleaning, inspection and repair steps for the delivered configuration instead of relying on a generic lifetime claim.

For bulk orders, approve a representative corner or gate assembly as well as a straight panel. These interfaces reveal profile, fastener, cap, drainage and finish details that a flat panel sample may not show. The signed sample and drawing should remain the acceptance reference for the production lot.

State distance from saltwater, direct salt spray, prevailing wind, industrial pollution, pool chemicals, irrigation and cleaning access. Aluminum can suffer local pitting in chloride-rich conditions and galvanic attack where incompatible metals remain wet. The coating and fastener system should be reviewed for the stated environment.

A slim profile may look appropriate but still needs to satisfy project loads. Provide wind, terrain, fence height, panel length, post spacing, gate size and foundation conditions. Compare the actual alloy, sections, walls, connections and foundations rather than relying on the word 'aluminum'.

• State picket or slat spacing and local safety requirements.
• Identify rackable, stepped or custom slope treatment.
• Use separate gate-post and foundation details for large gates.
• Coordinate self-closing, latching or access-control functions where required.
• Approve colour and gloss with a physical sample when appearance is critical.

Request the pretreatment route, powder type, target thickness, colour reference, gloss range if needed, cure/adhesion records requested and sampling plan. Include rules for scratches, exposed cut edges and field drilling. Do not assume the visible colour proves the underlying preparation.
