Aluminum fence panels are attractive to distributors and project buyers because aluminum contains no iron and therefore does not form red iron rust. That does not make every aluminum fence maintenance-free or suitable for every coast. Alloy, temper, profile walls, drainage, powder pretreatment, fasteners and chloride exposure still need to be specified.
MaiFa's client product matrix identifies powder-coated tubular aluminum panels with custom size, colour and tube thickness. Its current website publishes panel heights from 900 to 2500 mm, lengths from 1200 to 2400 mm and anodized, powder-coated or wood-colour finishes. Exact alloy and profiles should be stated in the project quotation.
Evidence boundary: do not publish a fixed coastal lifetime, percentage weight saving or universal maintenance claim without configuration-specific evidence. Describe the material and coating, then state the actual exposure and inspection plan.
For coastal procurement, the buyer should state distance from the shoreline, salt spray or splash exposure, prevailing weather, cleaning access and contact with dissimilar metals. Aluminum does not form red iron rust, but that fact alone is not a complete durability specification. Surface preparation, coating or anodizing, cut edges, drainage, crevices and fastener isolation still need attention. Request the alloy and temper, profile drawings and wall thicknesses for panels, posts and gates, then define the selected finish and inspection basis. Where appearance matters, approve a physical colour and gloss sample. Site maintenance instructions should identify cleaning, inspection and repair steps for the delivered configuration instead of relying on a generic lifetime claim.
For bulk orders, approve a representative corner or gate assembly as well as a straight panel. These interfaces reveal profile, fastener, cap, drainage and finish details that a flat panel sample may not show. The signed sample and drawing should remain the acceptance reference for the production lot.
1. Define the aluminum panel
Specification area |
What to state |
Why it matters |
Material |
Alloy and temper |
Controls fabrication and mechanical properties. |
Profiles |
Pickets/slats, rails, posts and wall thicknesses |
Controls geometry, weight and capacity. |
Panel |
Finished height/length, spacing, rail positions and tolerance |
Controls appearance, safety and installation. |
Finish |
Pretreatment, powder/anodizing/wood colour, thickness, colour and gloss |
Controls appearance and exposure response. |
Fasteners |
Material, isolation and finish |
Reduces incompatible-metal and staining risks. |
Drainage |
Caps, weep paths and water-trap avoidance |
Reduces retained moisture and deposits. |
2. Describe coastal or commercial exposure
State distance from saltwater, direct salt spray, prevailing wind, industrial pollution, pool chemicals, irrigation and cleaning access. Aluminum can suffer local pitting in chloride-rich conditions and galvanic attack where incompatible metals remain wet. The coating and fastener system should be reviewed for the stated environment.
3. Separate appearance from structural selection
A slim profile may look appropriate but still needs to satisfy project loads. Provide wind, terrain, fence height, panel length, post spacing, gate size and foundation conditions. Compare the actual alloy, sections, walls, connections and foundations rather than relying on the word 'aluminum'.
- State picket or slat spacing and local safety requirements.
- Identify rackable, stepped or custom slope treatment.
- Use separate gate-post and foundation details for large gates.
- Coordinate self-closing, latching or access-control functions where required.
- Approve colour and gloss with a physical sample when appearance is critical.
4. Specify powder coating and inspection
Request the pretreatment route, powder type, target thickness, colour reference, gloss range if needed, cure/adhesion records requested and sampling plan. Include rules for scratches, exposed cut edges and field drilling. Do not assume the visible colour proves the underlying preparation.
5. Bulk-order quotation checklist

6. Copy-and-send RFQ
Please quote powder-coated tubular aluminum fence panels for [project/location]. Exposure: [coastal distance/salt spray/industrial/poolside]. Panel height [mm], length [mm], total length [m], style/spacing [details], gates [schedule]. State alloy/temper; picket/slat, rail and post profiles/walls; post spacing; connection/foundation interface; pretreatment; powder type/thickness; colour/gloss; fastener material/isolation; drainage and maintenance guidance. Include approved drawings/sample, requested QA records, packing, weights, container plan and [Incoterm] price to [named place].
Frequently asked questions
Does aluminum rust?
It does not form red iron rust because it contains no iron, but local corrosion and coating damage still require attention.
Is powder colour enough to specify the finish?
No. Pretreatment, powder type, thickness, cure/inspection and repair rules also matter.
Can MaiFa customise size and colour?
The client matrix describes custom size, colour and tube thickness; the final drawing and quotation must define them.
Are large gates the same as line panels?
No. Gate leaves, posts, foundations and hardware require separate selection.
Request an exposure-specific MaiFa aluminum quotation
MaiFa can quote powder-coated tubular aluminum panels after receiving the design, exposure and delivery inputs. A controlled sample and drawing provide a safer basis than broad durability claims.
