Article copy

Chain link fence—also called diamond mesh or cyclone fence—is formed by weaving coated or galvanized wire into a flexible mesh. The mesh roll is only one part of a permanent fence system. Posts, rails or tension wire, tension bars, bands, ties, braces, fittings, gates and foundations must be coordinated for the installation.

MaiFa Fence publishes galvanized and PVC-coated chain link fence options in a wide range of roll heights, lengths, openings and wire diameters. Overseas buyers should use these values as an option matrix, then issue a complete bill of materials and packing request.

Avoid the common RFQ gap: “6 ft chain link fence” does not define the mesh opening, wire diameter, measurement before or after coating, selvage, roll length, post schedule, fittings, gate hardware or surface treatment. Each item affects weight, installation and price.

1. Select the mesh roll configuration

Item

MaiFa published option

RFQ instruction

Mesh height

0.5 to 4.0 m

Select finished height and tolerance.

Roll length

5 to 50 m per roll

Select roll length and maximum handling weight.

Mesh opening

40 × 40, 50 × 50, 60 × 60, 80 × 80 or 100 × 100 mm, etc.

State the clear opening and measurement method.

Wire diameter

1.8 to 5.0 mm

State whether diameter is measured before or after PVC coating.

Wire material

Low-carbon steel wire or galvanized wire

Define substrate and coating sequence.

Surface treatment

Hot-dip galvanized or PVC coated

State zinc/PVC requirements, colour and test method.

Selvage

Folded/knuckled or twisted options are described

Specify top and bottom edge treatment separately.

2. Clarify wire diameter and coating basis

Wire diameter is one of the most important cost and performance variables. For galvanized mesh, state the finished wire diameter and required zinc coating basis. For PVC-coated mesh, state the steel core diameter, finished outside diameter, PVC colour and coating adhesion or inspection requirement. Without this distinction, two offers labelled with the same diameter may not contain the same amount of steel.

Also specify the permitted diameter tolerance, how mesh opening is measured and the edge finish. Knuckled edges reduce sharp protrusions; twisted edges may be selected where an additional deterrent is appropriate and locally permitted. The top and bottom selvage can be different.

3. Build a complete post and fitting schedule

MaiFa’s permanent chain link product page publishes round post outside diameters of 42, 48, 50, 60, 76 and 89 mm, with wall thickness options from 1.5 to 5.0 mm. It lists steel pipe with hot-dip galvanized or powder-coated finishes. These are options; the project designer should select terminal, corner, gate and line posts based on fence height, spacing, wind, soil, gates and any screening.

  • Separate terminal, corner, straining, gate and line posts by section, wall, length and quantity.
  • State top rail, bottom rail or tension-wire requirements and their connectors.
  • Itemise tension bars, tension bands, brace bands, rail ends, loop caps, post caps, ties and fasteners.
  • Define tie-wire or clip material, spacing and compatibility with galvanized or PVC-coated mesh.
  • Add spare fittings and touch-up materials for installation and maintenance.

4. Specify gates as complete assemblies

Provide each pedestrian, single-swing, double-swing or sliding gate clear opening and overall height. State frame tube, chain link infill, hinges, latch or lock, drop rods, stops, wheels or track, gate posts, hold-open devices and automation interfaces. Gate-post and foundation requirements usually differ from standard line posts.

5. Account for privacy screening and wind

Open chain link mesh has low visual privacy. Slats, fabric or shade cloth may be added in some projects, but they change wind loading. Tell the supplier and project designer about any planned screening before post and foundation selections are final. Do not assume that a post schedule intended for open mesh remains suitable after the fence is screened.

6. Define export packing

Roll packing influences unloading, storage and installation. State whether rolls are individually wrapped, bundled or palletised; maximum roll weight; roll identification; number of rolls per bundle; moisture protection; and how posts and fittings are packed. Ask for gross and net weights, package dimensions and a container loading plan. Labels should connect each package to the packing list and component schedule.

7. What a chain link quotation should show

Quotation section

Minimum information

Mesh rolls

Height, roll length, opening, core/finished wire diameter, selvage, coating, colour, quantity and tolerances.

Posts/rails

Type, OD, wall, length, spacing, finish, caps, rail/tension-wire schedule and quantities.

Fittings

Tension bars/bands, brace bands, rail ends, ties/clips, bolts, finish and spares.

Gates

Clear opening, frame/infill, posts, hinges, locks, stops, supports and hardware.

Quality documents

Approved mesh and system drawings, requested material/coating records, dimensional inspection and packing photos.

Packing/commercial

Roll/bundle/pallet plan, weights, container plan, Incoterm and named place, lead time, payment and warranty scope.

8. Copy-and-send RFQ

Please quote a complete permanent chain link fence system for [application/location]. Total length: [m]; height: [mm]. Mesh rolls: [roll length], [opening], steel core wire [mm], finished wire [mm if PVC coated], [galvanized/PVC] finish, colour [reference], top selvage [knuckled/twisted] and bottom selvage [knuckled/twisted]. Please propose terminal, corner, gate and line posts using the supplied [wind/soil/screening] information, and itemise rails/tension wire, tension bars/bands, ties, fittings, fasteners and spares. Include the gate schedule, approved drawings, requested coating records, roll and pallet packing, weights, [Incoterm] to [named place], production schedule and warranty scope.

Frequently asked questions

What mesh roll sizes does MaiFa publish?

The product page lists heights from 0.5 to 4.0 m and roll lengths from 5 to 50 m.

What wire diameters are available?

MaiFa publishes 1.8 to 5.0 mm. For PVC-coated mesh, state both the steel core and finished diameter.

What is the difference between galvanized and PVC-coated chain link?

Galvanizing protects the steel with zinc. PVC-coated mesh adds a coloured polymer layer; the underlying steel and zinc configuration should still be stated.

Are posts included with mesh rolls?

Do not assume inclusion. Ask for a separate post, rail, fitting and gate schedule.

Can privacy fabric be added?

It may be possible, but it changes wind loading. Disclose it before posts and foundations are selected.

Send MaiFa a roll schedule and complete BOM

MaiFa can quote galvanized or PVC-coated chain link mesh and compatible post options. A complete enquiry should separate mesh, posts, rails, fittings, gates and packing so the buyer can verify quantities at loading and installation.
